         Korg Wavestation Patch Archive 04 - Theme 'Film/Soundtrack'
         ===========================================================

(13/02/97)

It's been a while since the last Patch Archive bank, mainly due to the
Wavestation list closing down, and also due to the relative slow rate
of uploads as compared to previous banks. As so few people submitted
sounds, I've included more of my own. I don't like doing this, but
it's better than uploading a bank with 4 patches...

This is the fourth Patch Archive bank, compiled from user-submitted
patches from the WS mailing list guys. There are 13 performances in
this bank, and they're set to load into RAM Bank 1 on Midi channel 1.
There are Raw Sysex, Midifile and SoundDiver versions of this bank.
You can find them in:

ftp.mcc.ac.uk pub/music/emagic/SOUNDSURFER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation

or look at the Trading Post web site:
        http://www.his.com/~ricks/trading.html

Submission details for further patch archives can be found on:
        http://www.city.ac.uk/~cb170/ws_subs.html

Please mail me (benj@city.ac.uk) with your vote on your single
favourite patch in this bank during the first few weeks it's made
available for downloading - the author of the most voted patch will
get immortalised on the Wavestation web pages!

Contributors to this bank are: Simon Lea, Terry Engelbrecht,
                               Brett Kaplan, David Cockram and
                               Ben Hall

Once again, thanks go to all contributors who made this bank possible.
If you haven't submitted anything yet but intend to, check out the
current theme and make your contributions. All welcome, whatever your
style/talent/taste thresholds are.

Enjoy the bank!

The Wavestation mailing list is back up again (yay!) at a new address:

                    wavestation@cloudfactory.org

To subscribe, send a mail to majordomo@cloudfactory.org with the body
text "subscribe wavestation", or "subscribe wavestation-digest"
(without the quotes). Come join the fun!

        ( ...and contribute to the WS Patch Archive... )
----------------------------------------------------------------------

* PC Users *
------------
For PC users, Cakewalk will load these files, or you can try one of
the two shareware WS editors (found in ftp.mcc.ac.uk in the directory
pub/music/emagic/SOUNDDIVER/LIBRARIES/Korg/Wavestation/WS_Editors/
amongst other places: these are WS Edit 1.c by Stefano Voulaz
<voulaz@IT.net> and Wavestat 4.0 by Mark Lankosza <alands@atcon.com>).

In addition there are various sysex programs around, try WinSysex,
SysEx95 or Dumpster for Windows that should do the job. Check the
popular Harmony Central web site: see
http://www.harmony-central.com/Software/Windows

* Mac Users *
-------------
Mac users can use Bulk Sysex 1.02 (it's around the net), or Galaxy and
Unisyn have SYX import drivers available if you use one of those
programs.

* Atari Users *
---------------
Atari users should use Dump-It! (contact me, or it's on
micros.hensa.ac.uk as well as other places) It's the only decent sysex
dumper that can handle bigg-ish dumps (ahem)

* Amiga Users *
---------------
I haven't a clue as to what sysex dumping software exists for the
Amiga. There is a utility with Bars'n'Pipes called Patchmeister that
does SYX file dumps (apparently). If you know of other similar
programs, drop me a line and let me know...

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course most sequencers on any computer platform will read and
transmit the midifile versions of the bank, so these may be more
convenient.

Performance Name: Bladerunner   *

 Author        : Ben Hall, benj@city.ac.uk
 Sound Type    : Ominous drones
 Location      : RAM1-00
 Patches  Used : Bladerunnr, Rezzyseq
 WaveSeqs Used : Br1, Br2
 Requirements  : Any Wavestation
 Date          :

 Comments : This is a nice big soundtrack drone. Hold a key on
                 the bottom octaves and let the reverb drone on. The
                 mod wheel fades down this sound. Aftertouch brings in
                 a little repeating arpeggio thing which pans about
                 the stereo image, and the joystick y-axis controls a
                 resonance effect.

Performance Name: Chrysalis     *

 Author        : Ben Hall, benj@city.ac.uk
 Sound Type : Breathy pad with tinkly overtones
 Location      : RAM1-01
 Patches  Used : + Chrysalis, - Chrysalis
 WaveSeqs Used : Tingly
 Requirements  : Any Wavestation
 Date          :

 Comments : Breathy, long-ish release dark pad, with a high end
                 tinkley-ish sheen. A bit Babylon 5, I suppose...

============================================================================

Performance Name: Daleks!!      *

 Author        : Ben Hall, benj@city.ac.uk
 Sound Type : Completely useless! :)
 Location      : RAM1-02
 Patches  Used : Daleks
 WaveSeqs Used : daleks
 Requirements  : Any Wavestation
 Date          :

 Comments : Uses Wavestation waves to recreate speech, with some
                 bizarre effects to grunge up the sound. Mod wheel
                 chnges filter resonance, and the pitch wheel controls
                 the pitch of the Dalek.

============================================================================

Performance Name: Futurascape   *

 Author        : Ben Hall, benj@city.ac.uk
 Sound Type : Breathy atmosphere pad

 WaveSeqs Used : Futu1, Futu2
 Requirements  : Any Wavestation
 Date          :

 Comments : Breathy fifths pad with a pitch bent attack, and the
                 odd few sound effects drifting in and out. Aftertouch
                 fades the breathy stuff out and a random LFO sound
                 takes over. Mod wheel fades up an arpeggio part.

============================================================================

Performance Name: Lurkers       *

 Author        : Ben Hall, benj@city.ac.uk
 Sound Type    : Pad, split
 Location      : RAM1-04
 Patches  Used :
 WaveSeqs Used :
 Requirements  : Any Wavestation
 Date          :

 Comments : Soft metallic moving pad plays on the bottom 3/4 of
                 the keyboard. Mod wheel fades up a thicker, brighter
                 moving pad part. The top of the keyboard plays a
                 breathy, echoed vocal hit. More Babylon 5... :)

============================================================================

Performance Name: X-Files       *

 Author        : Ben Hall, benj@city.ac.uk
 Sound Type    : Atmoshpere
 Location      : RAM1-05
 Patches Used : Tooms, E.B.E, Deepthroat, Fire
 WaveSeqs Used : -
 Requirements  : Any Wavestation
 Date          :

 Comments : Yup, good eerie soundtrack stuff! The bottom two
	         white notes on the keyboard trigger very X-Files-ey
	         sound FX, and the rest of the keyboard is given over
	         to modified presets, mainly pads and eerie noises.
	         Aftertouch fades in the famous WS wispy wavesequence.

 Comments : Hold down a key in the lower register and listen to
                 sound evolve. AT and MW change the intensity of the
                 effects. Apply one or the other briefly at strategic
                 points to enhance the motion. Joystick affects sound
                 mix.

============================================================================

Performance Name: Sco/are

 Patches Used : Tension, Iso new^, Iso new 2^, R-wah5
 WaveSeqs Used : S1, S2, S3, Drippy1
 Requirements  : WS EX
 Date          : Jan 97

 Comments : Best played (and held) in lower regions of keyboard -
                 sounds less ominous up high. Give it a couple of
                 seconds to develop - SMPTE sync the second hit to a
                 scary bit in your schlock horror masterpiece and,
                 presto! ;^)
